Week 14, 15 & 16 - Nothing

After moving in, and being ill and just loosing all my training mojo I haven't trained for 3 weeks, I'm 8 weeks into my half Ironman training plan and I feel really down hearts and lacking in motivation to train. This has put a big spanner in the works for my main race this season the Cotswolds113, it was my A race last year and I've got a time to beat but I am really struggling to just get up early or get home late from work to go and train. Whats wrong with me..

Week 9 - The Start

The first session has arrived and I'm really looking forward to my new training plan. I've decide to follow the Ironguides program, I wont go into to much detail in the plan otherwise people will just rip it off me and Ironguides wont make any money from my followers. I completed the Cotswolds 113 last year and the plan I followed was a lot lighter than this, this plan takes me straight into building a routine and conditioning my body for the race. I like it... I like it a lot... On a downer, I seem to have lost my Garmin watch... 25/02/13 - Swim Session A tough session to start with, I've been doing some of these the past month in and out of illness so I knew what was coming. I cut the warm up and warm down as I knew I wouldn't have enough time to complete everything in time and it its the 1st week the plan went easy on me and only gave me half a full session. 2x100m easy 2x the following 16x25m 1st 3 EASY 4th ALL OUT A...

Cotswolds 113 - Race Report

Image
Its arrived the main race of my season, Cotswolds113 Half Ironman distance race, it takes me a step closer to my ultimate goal of a full Ironman distance race, which fingers crossed will be in 2013. Race day started with a 4 am wake up call for breakfast, this consisted off a massive bowl of porridge and 2 pieces of wholemeal toast. As the nerves kicked in from the moment I woke up I had to force the food down as I felt sick with nerves!. As I was in Wave 1 for the swim I wanted to get to transition early, so I could get everything setup just the way I wanted and I knew that I had everything sorted before the race. As we arrived at the venue, the traffic was a nightmare, there was a massive queue just to park the car so I decided to leave the support crew (my wife & son) take the bike off the roof and grab my transition box and walk to rack my bike and this left my wife to go and park up. After 10 minutes of setting up, and faffing I noticed that I had left all my gels and h...

18/06/12 - Rest Day 19/06/12 - Rest Day 20/06/12 - Rest Day 21/06/12 - Free Ride (Spin Bike) As this was taper week before race day I just wanted to keep loose and spin my legs out on the bike, so a simple 45 minute session. I'll copy this session once more before the half ironman and that will be it, nothing else I can do and I'm going to be at the start line. Session Details Duration 00 45 00 Distance 15 Miles 22/06/12 - Free Ride (Spin Bike) Easy session on the spin bike before the race, this was the penultimate session before race day so I decided to take it easy with a gentle spin on the bike. Week 17 - The Next Level

23/04/12 - Free Run (Treadmill) When I first saw the training plan back 6 weeks ago, I was dreading this week, I knew it was going to be a hard one, and the first session of the week was a long run. I do miss running, as I used to do a lot in last years training schedule but I need to work on other areas in my triathlon training so the running had to be cut. As this was going to be a hard week I didn't want to kill myself on the first session of the week even though I managed 9.5 miles in 90 minutes on the treadmill. I wish I could go outside and run but I've only got the time to get into the gym and then back to work. Free run was on the cards today, I started the session at 9.5 min mile pace and when I loosed off about 3 miles I upped the speed to 8 minute mile pace. I managed to keep the heart rate relatively low, again the HR monitor has had a spike which I think is down to the machinery, as my heart rate hasn't seen 223 for years so I doubt this is right very m...

Week 16 - Water Week

16/04/12 - Interval Run Session (Treadmill) Back training with a new drive, after a recovery week last week I was keen to smash my first session back and make it a hard one. By hard one I mean get into T5 for some parts of the session. This session was all about how my legs and lungs can cope with the change of intensity in the session of 75 minutes. It went really well the session was a mixture of 2 intervals for the 75 minutes. 5 minutes T3 15 minutes T5 It definitely broke up the treadmill session, and made it that little less boring, I know I should be outside in the light now, but I think all this training indoors is making me soft.. so much for wanting to be an Ironman. Session Details Duration 01 15 00 Distance 8.13 Miles Average HR 157 BPM Max HR 172 BPM 17/04/12 - Rest Day 18/04/12 -  Swim Session (Penlan Pool, Swansea) Its been a while since my last swim session on the training plan so I was keen to get in the pool, and it was a longer session that ...
