Long Drive - Short Run

Image
I was up early this morning as we needed to get down to Tenby for the Ironman training weekend, I was lucky enough just to be doing the half marathon. As we were up in Southampton a 4 hour drive was on the cards, which I wasn't looking to. The motorway was rammed which made the journey seem longer than it normally does but I knew it was for a worthy cause at the end of the day. The Ironman training weekend started on Friday night, with the swim, the bike stage was scheduled for Saturday and the run Sunday. When we got closer to Tenby I saw a few cyclists out on the route, I didn't see any Celtic Tri vests out on the road, but I gave teh cyclists a quick toot on the horn for encouragement! I'm looking forward to marshalling the Ironman stages in September so I can see how much it really hurts doing all the events in one day! Good luck to them. Back to my running, as its race day on Sunday I just did a simple 2 mile run, without the Garmin. It was still very hot at ...

Late Evening Running Hot Hot Hot

Image
What a lovely day weather wise the sun has been out all day and its been to hot to run in... well its never to hot to run but I'll use that excuse all day untill the sun starts to set.  I went out for my run tonight at 7pm, it was cool enough and as I wanted to do a little run it was the ideal time before dinner was ready. I was lucky enough to have company on my run tonight, my wifes, sisters husband, so even though it was onyl 2.5 miles it was great to get out with someone else. I do like training with others as it keeps my pacing up high and it also gives me some drive to work hard. Its very hard to get a rythum going on just 2.5 miles but I found myself getting a good stride in and it feel great to be out running in the cooling evening. I did on the other hand get a good sweat up, and I didnt have underarmour on or skins, just a simple shorts a t-shirt so it must of been hot! I feel great and fingers crossed im in good shape for Sunday, Ive got a long drive back...

Taper Run Down South...

Image
As its Juneathon I still have to clock in some miles so as I'm on a taper for Sunday I only did a minor 2 miles for the day. I think its going to be even shorter on Friday and Saturday as I want to in the best possible shape for my race and it may not even be a run just a walk to keep me loose. I'm down Southampton at the moment for a funeral so not the best of times but the weather is amazing and I hope its here to stay, it ideal for running and more importantly ideal for racing in. I know it was only going to be a short run by I left my Garmin at home so I had no GPS for the tracking which is annoying as I feel naked with out my Garmin. I still feel like im the only runner out there as theres no one out running down here either... Todays session Duration 00 17 00 Distance 2.14 Miles

1st Day of Juneathlon - Light Running

Image
Its the first day of Juneathon, I did a similar thing in January called Janathon, this is where you need to clock in some form of exercise everyday and log it on there choose website and blog it. This is what started me off with my blogging and training session and its stuck. Check out the logo on my blog on the right hand side and click on it to find out more. I'm still on my taper as I'm racing on Sunday, Wales half marathon, so im sticking to 5 miles max or out for no longer than 45 minutes, and I've got to rest/very easy days scheduled on the training front for Friday and Saturday as I normally wouldn't do anything but as its Juneathon I'll do something. After my last run on Sunday which was complete rubbish I was looking forward to this run as I had Monday off as I went to watch Swansea City v Reading which was a very long day so no run that day and as I was still shattered on Tuesday so I decided not to run on empty. Well done to the Swans I knew we would ...

NOT Easy Like Sunday Morning...

Image
Todays session was not easy, it was hard work, and after having yesterday off I was really surprised and a little disappointed, but every run cant be a great one! At the 2 mile marker I hit a wall... It was only a light run today thank fully, even though I did the run relatively quick it hurt from the outset. Well I say hurt, im just being soft im just tired today. I ran the normal 5 mile route but felt longer today for some daft reason. Even though it was a tough 5 miler I still did under 8 minute mile pace. Apart the 5 miles a pretty boring run. Todays session Duration Distance 5 miles Calories 689 Max HR 172BPM Average 157BPM

Free Run Friday...

Image
The weekend is here and that means no work for 3 days as its a bank holiday, and even better im going to Wembley on Monday to watch Swansea City vs Reading, I hope the swan can make it to premiership, it will be amazing if they do. Friday tends to be my rest day, but as I didn't swim Tuesday and im off out to watch the champions league tomorrow with my mates on an all dayer I wont have time to get a swim, cycle or run in as I've got my order to cut the lawn before I leave. The session today was going to be an easy run, well not easy just a free run, I knew the route I was going to run, it was one I haven't run for some time, it will take over an hour to complete and the distance was about 8 miles, so a great workout. The route starts with a long up hill run, then to slight down hill and then another up long up hill so you have to work hard. To make it harder I was running into the wind on the way out, I wish this wind would go away, its meant to be summer! I had to s...

Windy Interval Club Session

Image
After yesterdays cycle session I was feeling great, no stiffness, and pains I felt great so when tonight run was called I was looking forward to it. I've been sat in the office all day and I haven't been out since 8am this morning so I was none the wiser about the strong wind. Well when I got to the club session I noticed that wind... The session today was 9 x (2mins 95% MHR x 2min 75% MHR) this is a excellent session and it was very similar to the post race session on Monday. As I was feeling great I decided to give it everything and try and clock in the biggest distance to date for a session like this. I kept in the training zone through the session and im noticing that im recovering alot quicker and im starting to up my pace in the recovery period in these sessions which is a good sign, my average pace was only 8 minute mile but I managed to get in a best pace of 4 and a half minutes. WOW! Watch out Roger Banister im coming to get you. I finished the session the sam...
