Running Late = Lonley Run

Image
It seems that work has been affecting my training start times recently and tonight was a typical example to work stopping play. I normally meet the group at 18:15 sharp and I turned up at 18:20 and they had already gone. I decided to chase them down and when I got to the bottom of the road I had the choice of right of left... I went right and it was the wrong choice. To top thing off I forgot my Garmin forerunner so I was not only running on my own but without a watch to pace me. I decided to see of the group had gone to one of our normal stopping points but there were nowhere to be seen, so I kept it simple and do 2 x 5km race pace runs. I knew the distances as I've run them many times down the Swansea sea front. There were a few people out running on the sea front, it was pitch black so when I got home I dug out my running lights so people dont bump into me and I can be seen from runners on coming. I used the other runners as targets to chase them down and I managed to pass ...

Dark Start Runs Are Nearly Here

Image
I missed out on last weeks session due to the triathlon on the weekend, so I was really keen to get a quality session in. The focus has moved to cross country races so the sets are based on them at the moment, which isn't great for me at the moment as im into half marathon training. The local council have decided to switch off the street lights in money saving exercise which is going to effect our training site as we cant training the dark and winter is coming. This was a lovely moon lit session but I think its going to be head torch material next week. The session was: 3x (1min @I, 1min jog, 1min @I, 2min jog, 4min @I, 2min jog) The coach called the start of the set before I had a chance to press go on my watch so I as half way through the first rep before I pressed go on the Garmin. I decided to manually lap this session so I was on the starters whistle for the evenings session. I managed to keep a 7.37 minute mile session which I am really happy about, im due a long ru...

A Dark Bike Sprint Session

Image
Its been a while since I've done this sprint session, I really need to work on my biking, I definitely dont so enough biking and its definitely going to effect my racing. I have decided that im going to purchase that turbo trainer but I cant see me affording it till next month after all these races at I've got planned till Christmas. This is a simple session of bike sprints. I managed 11 repartitions before my legs got to heavy to peddle, but I still had to peddle home all up hill may I add. I worked hard when I had to in the sprint sections, maxing out my heart rate at 162 BPM but my average heart rate was quite low at only 127 BPM. This session is a lonely one, as you dont see many people, but its a nice place away from the traffic and you can cycle the racing line. I dont think I'll be able to do many of these after work from today as the nights are starting to get dark quite early which is a shame, but roll on the turbo training. I managed a maximum speed of ...
