Run Breeze Kit - Review

Image
The nice chaps at RunBreeze have sent me some kit to test out and I couldn't wait to get it on and give it a go. The items I was received were: Runderwear - Mens Support Briefs Anti Blister Socks I've always been skeptical about running in pants/briefs as comfort is really important to me when out on long runs (It should be to every runner) and the less chance of irritation the better. There is nothing worse than hitting mile 10 and finding out your got sore areas in your crutch and the worse news is you've got another 10 miles to get home. There is nothing worse than finding your favorite/lucky/fastest pair of running shorts with NETTING inside... thats never going to be comfortable on those long runs. As soon as you take the underwear out of the box they look great, the design is really unique and the guys have really taken running briefs to the next level. The first feel of the runderwear in your hands you know a lot of though has gone into the design an...

February Training - Keep Building

Image
February has been a great month for me on the training front and the diet from, I've lost 22lbs since eating cleans and getting back into training. I'm still on 3 sessions a week, but trying to get that 4th one in when and where ever possible. My official training plan started this month for my main race of the year, Long Course Weekend (LCW) raced on the Ironman Wales course over 3 days. I must say I'm really looking forward to the race in July, It takes me that step closer to becoming an Ironman. Session Reviews 04/02/14 - Spin Session I've been a member of the gym for about 6 months now so I have decided to take up some of the free classes I get with the membership. One of them was intermediate spin so I thought I'd give it a go. Its up to you how hard you work but the instructor does shout at the class a lot to work hard so I do find myself getting a good work out. Its only 55 minutes but I get a cracking sweat on and I do feel it in the legs the follo...

New Knee New Distances

Image
This week was all about the 1 session, get 6km in the bank and take the rest of the week off to be chuffed about it. Two main things about this session, the first I hit 4000 miles in total training since 2011, Now I know that's not a lot in 2013 but its a milestone I wanted to hit this year so I know I was cutting it fine for 2013 objective. The second was a new distance on my way back to recovery. 03/12/13 - Run Session It was a few degrees warmer outside, so I decided to wear short, my new Tribesports gear was tested and it felt really comfortable, I'd recommend it to anyone. I'll get some snaps up when I get some time. Lights on and off I went, I wanted to make this a long run, further than previous runs and enough to reach another boundary in my head I think more than my knee. I really enjoyed this session, I'm only ticking over at 80% MRH but that's fine, I'm not aiming to go all out, I'm just after a quality session. I knew when I got home I...

Still Going Strong...

Image
The week was completed with 2 sessions again, but more importantly they were run sessions. I was so happy to get out there and get a run, after all the things that have happened to my knee in the past 40 weeks I was a great feeling. It was cold so donned my hat and gloves combo and off out I went for a pitch black run... I like to add I looked like a Christmas tree with all my lights on. No one was going to miss me! 25/11/13 - Run Session I knew no land speed records were going to be broken today, I just wanted to get out and get home without any tweaks, niggles or pains. It felt great, the cold air in my lungs, the open round in front of me (even though it was pitch black) I had my new running lights on and there was no stopping me. I stopped my mind playing tricks with me as there we no ghosts of zombies changing me I found my rhythm and off I went. Session Details 28/11/12 - Run Session Another dark nights run and I really enjoyed it, hat and gloves in tow and off ...

Week 52 / Week 1 - A New Year A New Focus

31/01/12 - Rest Day 01/01/13 - Rest Day 02/01/13 - Free Run First run of 2013, and it felt great, not to chilly but enough to keep you warm and working hard a keep focus on your running and not focused on keeping warm. I took an extra half a mile on the route, I still took a wrong turning as it was meant to be an extra 1.5 miles, but I'll save that for next time. It was a slow time for this one, but there was some tiredness in my legs and I wanted to do a sprint session later in the week so I eased off the speed and kept it below 9 minute mile pace. I felt strong when I finished the first session of 2013, I knew I had more in the legs and could have done it the whole run again if I had too... Honest! Session Details Duration 01:23.39 Distance 9.50 Miles Calories 1351 Average HR 154 BPM Max HR 175 BPM Average Pace 8.46 Best Pace 5.27 03/01/13 - Rest Day 04/01/13 - Sprint Session I enjoyed this session last week so...

Week 36 - Its Working

Image
03/09/12 - Free Run After a weekend off of feeling a little under the weather I decided to get in a hard run on the treadmill. This is just want I needed to get out the funk I was in. It was hot in the gym so I was sweating buckets, thank god I had the gym to myself, as I sure I would have scared most people away from a man cover in sweat going like the clappers on the treadmill. It was like a river was running off my head, thank god I remembered a towel but this seem to do nothing. When I finished I did wipe the screen and rails down, but I hope they clean the machines often! YUK! I cranked the treadmill to 8 minute mile pace and stayed there for the full 45 minutes/ Somehow this feels tougher than running on the road, but I suppose to can vary your pace on the road but still clock in the <8 minute mile pace. It was a tough one and by the end of the session I could feel it in my lungs, the burn... a good burn! Another quality hight tempo session done! Session Details...
