Week 36 - Its Working

Image
03/09/12 - Free Run After a weekend off of feeling a little under the weather I decided to get in a hard run on the treadmill. This is just want I needed to get out the funk I was in. It was hot in the gym so I was sweating buckets, thank god I had the gym to myself, as I sure I would have scared most people away from a man cover in sweat going like the clappers on the treadmill. It was like a river was running off my head, thank god I remembered a towel but this seem to do nothing. When I finished I did wipe the screen and rails down, but I hope they clean the machines often! YUK! I cranked the treadmill to 8 minute mile pace and stayed there for the full 45 minutes/ Somehow this feels tougher than running on the road, but I suppose to can vary your pace on the road but still clock in the <8 minute mile pace. It was a tough one and by the end of the session I could feel it in my lungs, the burn... a good burn! Another quality hight tempo session done! Session Details...

Week 21 - Heat Wave Training

21/05/12 - Rest Day 22/05/12 - Rest Day 23/05/12 - Open Water Swim (North Dock, Llanelli) What a lovely evening to do some open water swimming, the sun was shining and the water was.. well... warmish. I was reliable told its the warmest it had been all year, so I was happy to get in and get some meters in. I've been testing out some goggles, so tonight was a mask pair, you probably cant see them from the photo above, but I'm the head with the orange swim hat on the right. This was a great session, to get me back into the open water scene, 50 meter warm up, then then sprint 20 strokes, 10 recover, then sprint 30 strokes and 10 recovery. To finish we did zig-zag sprints, about 100 meter sprints with 30 seconds recoveries. My arms were really heavy after this session, but its a good pain! Session Details Duration 01 00 00 Distance 2000m 24/05/12 - Free Run (Llansamlet, Swansea) Its hot out there and I'm wearing black, no the best choice of colours fo...

An Hour In The Saddle

Image
The rain is falling out side, its dark and cold, so that can only mean one thing for the bike session, get the turbo out and do some sweating. I setup in the front room, next to the Christmas tree and presents, but more importantly in front of the TV with the rugby on and the Bose Ipod speaker on so I had something decent to watch on TV and some tunes to power me through the hour. My cadence and speed Garmin system is still working so im happy to get the output in Garmin connect. I have put some insulation tape over them so they dont move, not sure how that is going to work in the tri race season. After cycling for 20 minutes I noticed that my watch was in km and not miles, so I had no idea how far I had gone (in miles). I was pretty disappointed to finish up and only see that I had gone 15 miles.    I really enjoyed the session and I didn't loose focus all the way through and I could of carried on, I think the next one could/should be one and a half hours. The l...

Turbo Cadence Up

My Cadence is up and running an I'm really enjoying introducing turbo training into my monthly training plans.     I worked hard for the full 50 minutes, and I kept at a steady pace and work rate for 30 minutes, and then I switched to 3 interval sprint sets before the finish.
