February Training - Keep Building

Image
February has been a great month for me on the training front and the diet from, I've lost 22lbs since eating cleans and getting back into training. I'm still on 3 sessions a week, but trying to get that 4th one in when and where ever possible. My official training plan started this month for my main race of the year, Long Course Weekend (LCW) raced on the Ironman Wales course over 3 days. I must say I'm really looking forward to the race in July, It takes me that step closer to becoming an Ironman. Session Reviews 04/02/14 - Spin Session I've been a member of the gym for about 6 months now so I have decided to take up some of the free classes I get with the membership. One of them was intermediate spin so I thought I'd give it a go. Its up to you how hard you work but the instructor does shout at the class a lot to work hard so I do find myself getting a good work out. Its only 55 minutes but I get a cracking sweat on and I do feel it in the legs the follo...

Week 4 - Love The Turbo

Image
21/01/13 - Rest Day 22/01/13 - Turbo Intervals Starting to appreciate the bike again, the turbo trainer seems to giving my legs some more depth and I've definitely noticed some muscle change. I'm really enjoying it too so its definitely helping! Simple interval session, which I will be completing over February so I thought I'd give it a try tonight and see what my progress is made by the end of the month. 15 minutes warm up 15 minutes (1min @ 100 Cadence, 1 min @ 80 Recovery Cadence) 15 minutes warm down I may look to make the interval session to 30 minutes the better my bike fitness gets. Great to see the peaks, I am only on level 1 on the resistance on the turbo trainer but its a start in the right direction. I managed to get the 100 RPM cadence on most intervals and keep it there (or around 97 - 105) On another plus side I was dripping in sweat so I know I must of worked hard... Week 20 - I Need Some Motivation

Image
14/05/12 - Rest Day 15/05/12 - Rest Day 16/05/12 - Brick Session (National Pool of Wales & Swansea Sea Front) After have 2 days off this week already, I had no drive to get out for this session, but when I did finally get the Speedo Jammers on I was really keen to get into it. I decided to hit the 50 meter pool and complete a 4 x 500m set (2000 meters) and get a 60 minute run under my belt. The weather was lovely and I was keen to make the most of it. I was lucky enough to have a lane to myself and so it was a interrupted set and and a quick change into some running gear I was out the door and on the sea front listening to my ipod picturing myself running the last 7 miles of the Ironman race. I felt good, really good and could have quite happily kept on going on the run! Session Details Duration 01 40 00 Distance Swim (2000m) Run (7 Miles) 17/05/12 - Cycling (Spin Bike) I was still feeling it a bit from last nights brick and the alarm clock went off far to earl...

Cold, Wet, Windy, Dark - Hill Session

Image
Welcome back to a tough Monday night session with the elite group, a hill session in the poring down rain, gale force winds and its the first Monday night session I've done this winter in the dark. I wont forget this one in a hurry. We ran a mile warm up to the chosen hill, the group do this set on a Thursday morning, its a shelter hill from the wind so it made the session a little bit easier for us. The set was a mean hill one - 4 x large hill 4 x medium hill It was a tough session for me as I hadn't run with the group for 3 weeks because its landed on a recovery day for me or I have had to work late, it definitely shows I've missed it. I worked hard and kept my heart rate high. I maxed out at 188 BPM which is high for me and I managed to stick with the group till the start of the 3rd rep but then they just blew me away and my legs just got heavier. On the last hill, even though it was a medium I tried to kick on so I finished on a high and it was the fast rep ...

Cyprus Training - Holiday Rain?

Image
Second day of the holiday and I had planned to get up early and get in an interval session before it was to hot and the sun was to high, but as I'm on holiday so a lie in won! After spending 6 hours by the pool, chilling out listening to my iPod I thought it was time I got up and went out for the run I had planned to do at 8am this morning. The breeze had picked up and the temp has dropped (slightly) ideal for a holiday run. I chose a nice interval session: 6 x (2min 98%, 1min 80%, 1min 98%, 30secs 80%, 30secs 98%, 30secs 80%) I did a mile warm up and scope out the area, well I went looking for a supermarket and a bar and I think I found them, I turned and came back to start my session. The state of the roads out here are shockingly bad, an I think this made my run even harder, but I just ran through it to get to the end of the hot session and I even managed a best pace of 05.42 per mile! Tomorrow may be a swim day, it depends on the weather, as it just starte...
